A Heartfelt Thank You: Sky Top Orchard Named #3 Apple Orchard in the Nation

We are beyond honored—and humbled—to share that Sky Top Orchard has been named the #3 apple orchard in the nation by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. To be recognized on a national level is a tremendous milestone for our family-run farm, and it’s all thanks to you—our loyal guests, friends, and apple lovers from near and far—who voted and supported us throughout the years.

This recognition is not just about our apples. It’s about the experiences, the memories, and the generations of families who have joined us on the mountaintop in Henderson County, North Carolina, since our roots began in the 1960s. From crisp autumn mornings filled with apple picking to warm afternoons of hayrides and fresh apple cider doughnuts, your support has helped make Sky Top Orchard a destination beloved by thousands.

We’re deeply honored by this recognition, which highlights not just our orchard, but the rich apple-growing tradition of Western North Carolina. Henderson County—home to a vibrant community of growers—leads the state in apple production and ranks among the top 20 counties in the nation. After a challenging 2024 season following Hurricane Helene, we’re grateful that this national spotlight helps bring well-earned attention to the resilience and dedication of growers throughout our region.

We’re especially grateful to the readers who voted over the course of a month. To know that so many of you took time to share your love for Sky Top Orchard truly warms our hearts.

Over the years, we’ve focused on creating a place where families can reconnect—with nature, with one another, and with the simple joys of fall. Whether it’s biting into a freshly picked Honeycrisp, watching kids celebrate after hitting the target at our apple cannon, or enjoying a peaceful stroll through our orchards with panoramic mountain views, our goal has always been to offer more than just apples—we aim to offer cherished memories.

Currently, our u-pick season runs from July through late October, and we grow over 25 apple varieties, including fan favorites like Gala, Fuji, Red and Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, and Pink Lady. This recognition comes on the heels of being honored as the #5 Orchard in the USA by 10Best last year, and it only strengthens our commitment to excellence. But more than awards, it’s your smiles, stories, and continued visits that make it all worth it.
